Information Overload

Information overload is an increasingly serious problem for many people. Students, teachers, professionals... there's a lot to keep up with.

The internet has an abundance of information, and it’s easy to get overwhelmed.

If you don't have the right systems in place, it'll feel like drinking water from a firehose.

What if there was an easy way to find exactly what you need, exactly when you need it?

What if you didn't have to sift through all the internet fluff, close out of all the ads, or jump from page to page trying to find the answers to your questions.

It’s called “Make It Mine,” or MIM for short.

A Remedy for Information Overload

"Make It Mine" is a way to personalize your information in a way that streamlines the input and optimizes the output. This is one of many strategies related to your Information Management System

It’s like creating your own personal Google.

Google’s mission is to “organize the world’s information.” The problem is, as the world expands and becomes more complex, so does its information.

Complexity grows when the same information is created across different media. Not only do you have to find “what” you’re looking for, but you have to consider “how” you’ll consume the information if and when you find it.

First, there's video: Youtube, TED Talks, and various social media platforms like Vine, TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram.

There's also an increasing affinity for audio: music, podcasts, audiobooks, etc.

And for everything else that comes in a readable format, there’s e-books, blogs, websites, curated news apps like Flipboard, and RSS feeds like Feedly. The list goes on.

The whole idea of MIM is to consolidate and organize all the information you come across so you can easily access it in the future.

Find a Tool That Works

The best tool I’ve found for this is Evernote.

This app is highly functional and offers a myriad ways to capture and sort your information. It’s the closest thing to an “all in one” solution where you can compile everything in a way that suits your needs.

Evernote is just one tool, though. There are many others out there. And MIM is a strategy you can use regardless of which tool you pick.

In any case, MIM gives you a way to process information quickly and effectively. You can reduce the time spent searching and use it instead on doing what needs to be done.
